Some destinations with stricter visa rules may ask for proof that you will leave, such as an onward or return ticket. US ESTA

Check the GOV.UK list for your nationality. An ETA costs £20. Other websites may charge more, so apply on GOV.UK. GOV.UK says an ETA lets you visit the UK for up to 6 months at a time and tells you to check when yours expires. If you are only changing planes in the UK and are not sure whether you need an ETA, ask your airline.
