Can You Pay Later on Air Malta?

Yes, on Every Route They Fly, on Laters.com

Yes. You can book Air Malta (KM) on Laters.com and pay later with Klarna, Afterpay, Clearpay or Affirm Stripe, choosing your plan at checkout. It works on every route Air Malta flies and every fare class, with your e-ticket delivered as soon as the plan is approved.

Paying later is a payment method at the Laters.com checkout, not something Air Malta switches on, so it works on every route we ticket. Search the route, choose a provider on the payment screen, pick a plan, and get the e-ticket once payment is approved. The plans you see are set by the country you book from, not the airline you fly. Checkout shows only plans your fare qualifies for, so there is nothing to work out first.

An instalment plan leaves the fare alone, and the baggage allowance, and the seat, and what your fare earns in KM Rewards. You fly as Air Malta's own passenger on its own fare rules. Only the paying is spread. Interest-free plans run a soft eligibility check that does not affect your credit score. Interest-bearing monthly financing runs a full credit check. Approval is never guaranteed on either. Prefer no plan? Pay in full by card or crypto at checkout.

Air Malta is paid in full at booking, you repay the provider on your chosen plan, and the e-ticket is issued straight away. The same short instalment shape trades under different names by provider and market, so your offer may not use the names here.

Illustrative only. The figures above are computed from the fare you set: plain division for the interest-free plans, and each plan's own illustrative rate over its stated term for monthly financing. They are not an offer, a quote, or a prediction of what you will be given. Laters.com is not the lender and takes no part in the decision: which plans appear, the instalment amounts, any interest and fees, and whether you are eligible at all are determined by the provider alone, and depend on a credit or eligibility assessment, your country and your basket. The only way to see your real plans is to choose a provider at checkout, at which point that provider, not Laters.com, approves or declines the purchase. All plans, rates, fees and terms are estimates only and subject to approval and to change.

Laters.com vs booking direct

Why buy Air Malta flights with Laters.com?

Booking direct with the airline is a reasonable choice if you want to pay by card and already know the flight you want. What its checkout doesn't give you is one search across every airline we sell, or a choice of pay-later plans to pick from at payment. The ticket is the same Air Malta ticket either way, issued on the airline's own fare rules, with the same baggage allowance, seat selection and loyalty earning. Pay-later plans are credit, so check the terms first.

What is the Laters.com Airline Quality Score?

Our editorial rating, out of 10, for what an airline is actually like to fly once you have booked it.

  1. 1Reliability & operations
  2. 2Comfort & experience
  3. 3Value & network
  4. 4Professional airline rating

Scored by the Laters.com editorial team from the airline’s own published specifications and named third-party measurements. No airline pays to be rated, no placement is sold, and this page contains no affiliate links.

Air Malta scores 6.6 out of 10: the plain average of the measures below, rounded to one decimal. Each measure is an editorial assessment of the published facts.

  • Economy Basic: small bag only, no checked bag
  • No published minimum connection time at Malta

Reliability & operations8.5/10

The 2025 AirHelp Global Airline Survey ranked the airline 2nd for on-time performance, with a score of 8.7. The fleet is eight Airbus A320neo, one type, and ch-aviation named it Europe's youngest in 2025. No minimum connection time is published, so leave margin: be at the gate 30 minutes before a connecting departure.

Comfort & experience4.5/10

Economy seat pitch is 28-29in; no width or Business-cabin pitch is published. Wi-Fi, entertainment and power ports are unconfirmed. Economy food is buy-on-board, while meals are served in Business, which has up to 36 seats on the A320neo. Skytrax seat comfort scores 2.4 out of 5, so budget for food and seat choice.

Value & network5.5/10

Economy Basic is a small bag only, with no hand luggage and no checked bag, so add-ons decide the price: seats from €3, an extra 20kg bag at €40, and €10 per kg overweight. KM Rewards runs from Member to Pioneer, and the top tier needs 12,500 Status Points. Pioneer unlocks free Economy seat selection and lounge access.

Professional airline rating8/10

APEX named it a Four Star Major Airline for 2026, and Skytrax ranked it 4th Best Regional Airline in Europe in 2025. The 2025 AirHelp survey placed it 5th of 117 airlines, scoring 7.85. ch-aviation added two youngest-fleet awards. Four stars from APEX, not four and a half, keeps it at this band.

How the score is built

  • 4 measures, each scored out of 10

  • Each measure is an editorial assessment based on the published facts and sources in the breakdown
  • No airline pays to be rated, and no placement is sold

What we deliberately left out

  1. Safety. It is not a marketing metric and we will not rank carriers on it.
  2. Cancellation rate and fleet age. Omitted rather than estimated, until a sourced field exists for every airline.
  3. Any sub-metric we cannot attribute. An unsourced measure is dropped, not guessed.
  4. Blended third-party scores that mix in inputs we have already rejected elsewhere on this page.

FAQs: Booking Air Malta and Paying Later

Everything about booking Air Malta flights on Laters.com and splitting the fare, plus the airline’s own rules that decide what you get.

Air Malta Airbus A320neo 9H-NEC on approach to London Heathrow

Can I book Air Malta flights on Laters and pay later?

Yes. Flights under the KM code are now operated by KM Malta Airlines, which succeeded Air Malta as Malta's national airline. Search on Laters, pick your flight and choose a pay-later provider at checkout: Clearpay, Afterpay, Klarna or Affirm Stripe, in that order. Your e-ticket is delivered instantly after approval.

Why does Air Malta show up as KM Malta Airlines?

Air Malta ceased flight operations, and KM Malta Airlines took over as Malta's national airline under the IATA code KM. Its first flight was on 31 March 2024. It flies from Malta International Airport (MLA), which has a single terminal, and Laters lists its flights under the KM code.

Which pay-later providers can I use for an Air Malta (KM) fare?

The Laters checkout shows Clearpay, Afterpay, Klarna and Affirm Stripe for KM flights, in that order. Laters works on every fare class, so Basic, Value, Plus and Flex fares in Economy and Business are all bookable this way. There are no hidden booking fees from Laters. Any interest or late fees come from the provider, so read its terms first.

What happens if I miss an instalment on an Air Malta booking?

The consequences are set by your provider (Clearpay, Afterpay, Klarna or Affirm Stripe), not by KM Malta Airlines. Late fees and a mark on your credit file are possible, so check the terms before you accept. Contact the provider before a due date if you cannot pay. Only borrow what you can repay from your regular income.

If KM Malta Airlines cancels my flight, how do I get my money back?

If KM Malta Airlines cancels your flight, its EU261 Cancellation Notice offers a choice: reimbursement of the full unused ticket cost within seven days (cash, electronic bank transfer, bank order or bank cheque, or travel vouchers with your signed agreement), or re-routing to your destination at the earliest opportunity or a later date of your choice. The airline also owes EU261 compensation (€250–€600 depending on distance) unless you were notified early enough or the cause was extraordinary circumstances. Paying later with Laters does not change these rights, which sit with the airline, not the payment provider.

How reliable is KM Malta Airlines on punctuality?

In the 2025 AirHelp Global Airline Survey, KM Malta Airlines ranked 5th of 117 airlines with a score of 7.85. It ranked 2nd in the on-time performance category with a score of 8.7. It also holds an APEX Four Star Major Airline rating for 2026. A pay-later plan runs on its own schedule whatever happens to the flight, so factor that in.

What baggage do I get on an Air Malta Economy fare?

It depends on the Economy fare. Basic includes only a small under-seat bag (max 40 x 34 x 18cm). Value adds a 10kg checked bag but still no hand luggage in the overhead bin. Plus and Flex add 10kg of hand luggage (max 55 x 40 x 25cm) on top of a 20kg checked bag. Extra checked baggage starts from €30 online for up to 15kg.

How much do extra bags cost on KM Malta Airlines?

On the KM website, an extra checked bag costs €30 up to 15 kg, €40 up to 20 kg and €44 up to 32 kg. Within 5 hours of departure the prices rise to €45, €55 and €75. Overweight checked baggage is €10 per kg. Work these into your budget before choosing how many instalments to take.

When can I check in for a KM Malta Airlines flight?

Online check-in opens 24 hours before departure, except for flights departing Berlin, where it is not available. At the airport, arrive at least 2.5 hours before departure. Check-in closes no later than 60 minutes before departure. Passengers travelling with a pet in the cabin must visit the check-in desk even if they checked in online.

How should I choose a payment plan for a bigger Air Malta fare?

Start with the whole cost: the fare, plus extras such as seat selection from €3 or a €40 extra 20 kg bag. Business Flex includes 2 x 32 kg checked bags and 2 x 8 kg hand luggage, so it costs more than Economy Basic but may save on add-ons. Infants pay 10% of the adult fare, which also goes into the total. Choose the plan where each payment fits your monthly budget and avoid stretching it just to lower the amount.

Is pay later for Air Malta flights available in my country?

Availability depends on the provider and on your billing country, so the checkout shows only the options you can use. Clearpay, Afterpay, Klarna and Affirm Stripe each have their own country coverage. Your country does not limit which KM routes you can book, because Laters works on every route and fare class. KM flies from its single-terminal hub at MLA and to the 20 airports listed for online check-in.

What if my pay-later application for a KM flight is declined?

You can try another provider at the Laters checkout, since KM flights offer four: Clearpay, Afterpay, Klarna and Affirm Stripe. You can also compare prices from multiple providers in one Laters search. If you still want a Malta route, easyJet and Wizz Air are listed as low-cost alternatives on overlapping Malta–Europe routes. Ryanair is listed as KM's largest competitor on those routes.

Can I pay for my flight with Klarna?

Yes. On Laters.com you can book an Air Malta (KM) flight and choose Klarna at checkout, splitting the fare into scheduled instalments instead of paying it in full. KM Malta Airlines' own booking site does not offer a pay-later option; it takes Amex, Diners Club, Discover, Mastercard and Visa in one payment.

Which airlines accept Afterpay?

Air Malta (KM) is one of the airlines bookable on Laters.com with Afterpay. Clearpay is the same Afterpay product under its UK brand name, so a Clearpay checkout works identically for the same KM Malta Airlines fare.

Can I pay for flights with Klarna or Afterpay?

Both, for an Air Malta (KM) fare. Laters.com's checkout lets you choose Klarna, Afterpay, Clearpay or Affirm Stripe, and each provider runs its own approval and credit check independently of the others.

What airline lets you pay in installments?

Air Malta (KM) flights booked through Laters.com split into instalments with Klarna, Afterpay, Clearpay or Affirm Stripe. How many instalments and whether interest applies depends on the provider you pick, not on the airline.

Can I book a flight and pay later?

Yes: pick an Air Malta (KM) fare on Laters.com, then choose Klarna, Afterpay, Clearpay or Affirm Stripe at checkout to spread the cost instead of paying the full price up front.

Can I use PayPal Pay Later to buy flights and pay later?

Not on this page. The Air Malta (KM) checkout on Laters.com offers Klarna, Afterpay, Clearpay and Affirm Stripe; PayPal Pay Later is not one of the providers listed for this airline.

Who is Air Malta?

Air Malta's flying now runs under KM Malta Airlines, which succeeded it as Malta's national airline and is owned by the Government of Malta. It describes itself as a full service European airline, not a low-cost one. The Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) named it a Four Star Major Airline for 2026. Flights run from Malta International Airport, a single-terminal hub, and codeshare and interline agreements link it to larger airlines. No alliance membership is confirmed. Its loyalty programme, KM Rewards, starts at Member and tops out at Pioneer, which takes the most Status Points earned in a collection period running from April to March. Onboard, Economy sells meals and drinks, while Business serves meals.

Paying later changes how you fund the fare, not the fare. The price is the same as paying by card. The baggage allowance is the one your fare carries (the lowest Economy fare is a small bag only). Loyalty earning follows your fare class. The ticket is issued on the airline's own conditions of carriage, so you fly as its own passenger and simply spread the cost.

Paying later is credit. Some plans carry interest, a soft credit check may apply, and a missed instalment has consequences with the provider, including a possible late fee. Only split a fare you are sure you can repay.

Fleet and on-time performance

Air Malta's fleet is a single-type operation built entirely on Airbus. It flies the A320neo and nothing else, so there is no mixed long-haul fleet here. The flying is short and medium-haul from Malta, with overlap on routes to London, Paris, Munich, Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate. The Business cabin is flexible, so the number of Business seats can change from flight to flight. ch-aviation gave the airline its Europe's Youngest Aircraft Fleet Award for 2025. The stats panel beside this paragraph carries the fleet count. These are the types in service when last confirmed, and deliveries and retirements change them. Cancellation rate and fleet age are left out on purpose, because neither has been confirmed, and we do not estimate.

Laters.com is operated by Fly Fairly Pte. Ltd., a travel agent licensed by the Singapore Tourism Board under licence TA04059. Contact Laters.com about a booking, including changes and cancellations; contact your payment provider about your repayment account.
