Can You Pay Later on ITA?

Yes, on Every Route They Fly, on Laters.com

Yes. ITA Airways flights work with pay later at Laters.com checkout, on every route and fare class ITA Airways flies. Your 23 kg Economy checked-bag allowance and Miles & More earning stay the same; only the payment is split. Pick a plan, and the e-ticket arrives once approved.

Paying later is a payment method at the Laters.com checkout, not something ITA has to switch on, which is why it works on every route we ticket. Search the route, choose a provider, pick a plan, and the e-ticket arrives once payment is approved. Which plans you see depends on the country you book from, not the airline you fly, and checkout shows only plans your fare qualifies for, so there is nothing to work out in advance.

An installment plan leaves the fare alone, and the baggage allowance, and the seat, and what the fare class earns in Miles & More. You fly as ITA's own passenger on ITA's fare rules, and only the paying is spread. Interest-free plans run a soft check that does not affect your credit score. Interest-bearing monthly financing runs a full credit check. Approval is never guaranteed on either. Or pay in full by card or crypto at the same checkout.

ITA is paid in full at booking, you repay the provider on the plan you chose, and the e-ticket is issued straight away. The same short installment shape trades under different names by provider and market, so the plan you are offered may not carry the name used here.

Illustrative only. The figures above are computed from the fare you set: plain division for the interest-free plans, and each plan's own illustrative rate over its stated term for monthly financing. They are not an offer, a quote, or a prediction of what you will be given. Laters.com is not the lender and takes no part in the decision: which plans appear, the instalment amounts, any interest and fees, and whether you are eligible at all are determined by the provider alone, and depend on a credit or eligibility assessment, your country and your basket. The only way to see your real plans is to choose a provider at checkout, at which point that provider, not Laters.com, approves or declines the purchase. All plans, rates, fees and terms are estimates only and subject to approval and to change.

Laters.com vs booking direct

Why buy ITA flights with Laters.com?

Booking direct at ita-airways.com is a reasonable choice if you are paying by card in one go. What the airline's own checkout does not give you is one search across every airline we sell, or the choice of pay-later plans the Laters.com checkout carries. It is the same ITA ticket, issued on the airline's own fare rules, with the same baggage allowance, seat selection and loyalty earning. Splitting the fare changes nothing on the ticket. Pay-later plans are credit, so check the terms first.

Reliability & operations5/10

ITA's on-time performance has not yet been independently verified to a primary source, so this measure sits at the midpoint rather than claiming a rate. The airline operates a fleet of 99 aircraft, including 22 wide-body Airbus A350-900, A330-900neo and A330-200 jets.

What we deliberately left out

  1. Safety. It is not a marketing metric and we will not rank carriers on it.
  2. Cancellation rate and fleet age. Omitted rather than estimated, until a sourced field exists for every airline.
  3. Any sub-metric we cannot attribute. An unsourced measure is dropped, not guessed.
  4. Blended third-party scores that mix in inputs we have already rejected elsewhere on this page.

FAQs: Booking ITA and Paying Later

Everything about booking ITA flights on Laters.com and splitting the fare, plus the airline’s own rules that decide what you get.

ITA Airways Airbus A220-100 (I-ADVC) parked on the apron at London City Airport

Can I book ITA flights and pay later on Laters.com?

Yes. At Laters.com checkout, ITA (AZ) flights can be paid for with Clearpay, Klarna, Afterpay or Affirm Stripe, shown in that order. ITA's own site offers installments only to Brazil and Colombia residents, so this gives travelers elsewhere an installment route. Your e-ticket is delivered instantly after approval.

Which pay-later providers work for ITA bookings?

The ITA checkout on Laters.com lists Clearpay, Klarna, Afterpay and Affirm Stripe. They apply to every ITA fare class, from Economy Light to Premium Economy and Business. Which ones you can pick depends on your approval with each provider.

Is there a credit check when I pay for an ITA flight later?

Paying later is credit, and the provider you choose decides whether to approve you and how. ITA's own installment plan has its own rules (a Brazilian-issued card and a booking over USD 100), but those apply only on ITA's site. On Laters.com, the provider's approval rules apply instead, and your ITA e-ticket is issued once you are approved.

If ITA cancels my flight, how do I get a refund?

ITA's conditions of carriage, published on ITA's website, set what you are owed when ITA cancels. You can manage the booking through ITA's manage-my-bookings portal. Your installments are an agreement with the pay-later provider, so tell the provider about the cancellation and ask how remaining installments will be treated.

What carry-on allowance does ITA give?

ITA allows 1 carry-on bag of up to 8 kg and 55 x 40 x 23 cm, including handles, pockets and wheels. You can also bring one personal item up to 30 x 40 x 15 cm. On busy flights, carry-on bags may be taken at the gate and put in the hold, but not on intercontinental flights.

How much checked baggage does ITA include, and what does an extra bag cost?

Economy includes 1 x 23 kg, Premium Economy 2 x 23 kg and Business 2 x 32 kg (2 x 23 kg on domestic Italy flights). The Economy Light fare has no checked bag, and adding the first one in Italy costs from €60 / $75. An extra checked bag on Economy or Premium Economy Classic, Saver, Basic and Comfort fares in Italy starts from €65 / $85.

How do I choose a payment plan for a bigger ITA fare, such as Business?

Business on ITA includes 2 x 32 kg of checked baggage (2 x 23 kg on domestic Italy), and the fare is usually well above Economy Light. Compare the installment schedule each provider shows at checkout, and pick the one whose payments fit your monthly budget. A longer plan means more payments to keep track of, so check the full repayment amount before you accept.

Can I use pay later on every ITA fare class?

Yes. Laters.com checkout works on every airline, route and fare class, including ITA's Economy Light, Economy, Premium Economy and Business. Economy Light has no checked bag, so the fare is lower but a first bag in Italy costs from €60 / $75. Compare the total with the bag included before choosing a plan.

When does ITA check-in open and close for a flight I paid for in installments?

Online check-in on ITA opens 48 hours before departure. It closes 40 minutes before domestic flights and one hour before international flights. At the airport, check-in closes 40 minutes before domestic and Schengen flights and 60 minutes before long-haul and non-Schengen flights. For US flights, ITA asks you to be at check-in 3.5 hours before departure.

Is pay later for ITA flights available in my country?

Availability depends on the provider and on your billing country, and the options you can use appear at checkout. ITA's own site offers installments only to residents of Brazil and Colombia, with a card issued there. Pay-later providers on Laters.com are separate from that, so check which ones appear for your booking.

Will paying for an ITA flight later affect my credit score?

Pay-later is credit, and the effect on your score depends on the provider's checks and how it reports payments. Laters.com does not set that. The ITA fare class makes no difference. Economy at 1 x 23 kg and Business at 2 x 32 kg are treated the same way by the provider. Read the provider's terms before you accept.

Why use pay later on Laters.com instead of paying on ITA's own site?

ITA's own site takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express, UATP, Maestro and PayPal. Its installment option is 2 to 6 interest-free monthly payments in BRL, only for departures from Brazil on Brazilian-issued cards and bookings over USD 100. Laters.com adds Clearpay, Klarna, Afterpay and Affirm Stripe for ITA flights.

Does Laters.com add booking fees to ITA flights?

No. Laters.com has no hidden booking fees. Charges set by ITA still apply, for example from €65 / $85 for an extra checked bag in Italy or €50 per bag to raise baggage cover to €500. Seat selection also costs a fee that depends on fare class.

Does paying later change how I manage my ITA booking or request assistance?

No. You manage the booking through ITA's manage-my-bookings portal as normal. Special assistance must be requested at booking or at least 48 hours before departure through ITA's Assistance Team. Passengers needing assistance must check in at the airport, not online.

Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO)

SkyTrax Β· Lufthansa Group – ITA Airways profile

Who is ITA?

ITA is Italy's flag carrier, flying under the IATA code AZ as part of the Lufthansa Group. The Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance holds the majority, and Deutsche Lufthansa is the other shareholder.

Rome Fiumicino (FCO) is the hub. Star Alliance membership adds reciprocal frequent-flyer recognition and lounge access beyond ITA's own flights. The loyalty program is Miles & More. It starts at Frequent Traveller and tops out at HON Circle, which is reached through HON Circle Points alone within a calendar year, not the Points and Qualifying Points pair used for the lower tiers.

Paying later changes very little about the trip. The fare is the same as paying by card. The baggage allowance is the one the fare carries, so an Economy Light fare still has no checked bag. Miles are earned at the rate your fare class earns. The ticket is issued on ITA's own conditions of carriage, so you fly as an ITA passenger and only the way you pay is different: the cost is spread over installments.

Paying later is credit. A soft credit check may apply, some plans carry interest, and there is an upper limit on the fare you can split. A missed installment has consequences with the provider, and a late fee may apply. Only split a fare you are confident you can repay.

Fleet and on-time performance

ITA leans on one manufacturer, Airbus, and its long-haul flying is done by a mixed fleet rather than a single type. Three wide-body types are confirmed: the Airbus A350-900, the Airbus A330-900neo and the Airbus A330-200. They serve flights out of the Rome Fiumicino hub, with Milan Linate as its most important airport in northern Italy. Narrow-body types are not in the confirmed facts, so none are named here. These are the types in service when the facts were confirmed, and deliveries and retirements change them. On-time performance, cancellation rate and fleet age are left out on purpose, because none of them has a confirmed figure and we would rather show nothing than an estimate.
