Barrier Air pay later

Can You Pay Later on Barrier Air?

Yes, on Every Route They Fly, on Laters.com

Yes. You can book Barrier Air on Laters.com and pay later. Search the flight, pick a pay-later plan inside the checkout, and the e-ticket arrives straight away. It works on every route Barrier Air flies and on every fare class, so Premium, Economy and Seat Only are all covered.

Paying later is a payment method at the Laters.com checkout, not something Barrier Air has to switch on, which is why it works on every route we ticket. Search the route, choose a provider on the payment screen, pick a plan, and the e-ticket arrives as soon as payment is approved. Which plans you see depends on the country you book from, not the airline you fly, and checkout shows only the plans your fare qualifies for.

An instalment plan leaves the fare, the baggage allowance and the seat alone. You fly as Barrier Air's own passenger on its own fare rules, and only the paying is spread. Interest-free plans run a soft eligibility check that does not affect your credit score. Interest-bearing monthly financing runs a full credit check. Approval is never guaranteed on either. You can also pay in full by card or crypto at the same checkout.

Laters.com vs booking direct

Why buy Barrier Air flights with Laters.com?

Booking direct with the airline is a reasonable choice for a straight card payment. What its own checkout does not give you is one search across every airline we sell, or the choice of pay-later plans the Laters.com checkout carries. Those plans are credit, so split a fare only if you can repay each instalment. The ticket does not change: it is the same Barrier Air ticket, issued on the airline's own fare rules, with the same baggage allowance, seat selection and loyalty earning.

Payment surchargesNone. Laters.com charges no booking fees or payment surcharges.Barrier Air's own airfare terms state that card payment fees are non-refundable, though no surcharge percentage is published.

What is the Laters.com Airline Quality Score?

Our editorial rating, out of 10, for what an airline is actually like to fly once you have booked it.

  1. 1Reliability & operations
  2. 2Comfort & experience
  3. 3Value & network
  4. 4Professional airline rating

Scored by the Laters.com editorial team from the airline’s own published specifications and named third-party measurements. No airline pays to be rated, no placement is sold, and this page contains no affiliate links.

Barrier Air scores 4.8 out of 10: the plain average of the measures below, rounded to one decimal. Each measure is an editorial assessment of the published facts.

What to watch

  • Counter check-in and bag drop close 30 minutes before departure
  • Excess baggage NZ$5.50 to NZ$10.00 per kg, by route

Reliability & operations5/10

Barrier Air has no on-time figure from a named measurement body, which holds this score at 5. It flies one aircraft type, five Cessna Grand Caravans. Counter check-in closes 30 minutes before departure, and the airline accepts no responsibility for connections, so leave slack on any onward journey.

Comfort & experience4/10

Barrier Air publishes no seat pitch, Wi-Fi, meals or entertainment, which keeps this at 4. What is confirmed is small: the Caravans carry a maximum of 12 passengers, every fare includes a 7kg carry-on, and alcohol is prohibited onboard. Expect a short hop in a single-engine turbine aircraft.

Professional airline rating4/10

No star rating from a named body and no named awards are confirmed for Barrier Air, so this sits at 4. The airline has operated since 1983 (per Wikipedia) and became Barrier Air in 2015, but age is not a rating. Check recent traveller reviews before booking.

How the score is built

  • 4 measures, each scored out of 10
  • The headline is the plain average of those measures, computed in the open
  • Each measure is an editorial assessment based on the published facts and sources in the breakdown
  • No airline pays to be rated, and no placement is sold

What we deliberately left out

  1. Safety. It is not a marketing metric and we will not rank carriers on it.
  2. Cancellation rate and fleet age. Omitted rather than estimated, until a sourced field exists for every airline.
  3. Any sub-metric we cannot attribute. An unsourced measure is dropped, not guessed.
  4. Blended third-party scores that mix in inputs we have already rejected elsewhere on this page.

The full method, measure by measure, is on how we score airlines.

FAQs: Booking Barrier Air and Paying Later

Everything about booking Barrier Air flights on Laters.com and splitting the fare, plus the airline’s own rules that decide what you get.

Can I book Barrier Air on Laters and pay later?

Yes. Laters works on every airline, route and fare class at checkout, which includes Barrier Air's Premium, Economy and Seat Only fares from Auckland (AKL). No pay-later option is confirmed on Barrier Air's own booking site, so the instalment choice comes from Laters. Paying later is credit, so only split a fare you are sure you can repay.

Is there a credit check when I pay later for Barrier Air?

Approval happens before your e-ticket is issued, and whether it involves a credit check depends on the provider's terms shown at checkout. Read them before you accept. Barrier Air's aircraft are Cessna Grand Caravans carrying at most 12 passengers each, so apply once you have settled on your flight rather than part-way through choosing.

What happens if I miss a payment on a Barrier Air booking?

Missing a payment can bring late fees and can be recorded against you, depending on the provider's terms shown at checkout. Contact the provider before the due date if you expect trouble. Your repayments are separate from Barrier Air's own charges, such as the NZ$50 per person, per flight Economy change fee.

What if Barrier Air cancels my flight after I have paid later?

Barrier Air's fare rules say a Premium refund is ticket value less a $50 booking fee per person, per booking, and they exclude weather from that rule. Refunds for a cancellation are handled against the booking, and your instalment arrangement is a separate agreement with the provider. Check both sets of terms before you rely on a refund to clear what you owe.

Can I change my Barrier Air booking if I am paying in instalments?

Barrier Air lets Economy passengers change before the day of departure for NZ$50 per person, per flight, plus any fare difference. It allows no changes on the day of departure on any fare. A change fee is extra cost on top of your plan, so factor it in before you commit to instalments.

What baggage comes with a Barrier Air fare?

Every Barrier Air fare includes a 7kg carry-on, plus a small personal item such as a handbag, laptop or backpack. Premium and Economy add 20kg checked on Great Barrier Island, North Shore, Tauranga and Whitianga flights, and 23kg on Kaitaia and Kerikeri flights. Seat Only is carry-on only.

What does extra or oversized baggage cost on Barrier Air?

Excess baggage is NZ$5.50 per kg on Great Barrier Island, North Shore, Whitianga and Tauranga flights, and NZ$10.00 per kg on all other flights. Surfboards and bikes are NZ$50 one way each. Bikes must be booked by phone in advance, and e-bikes and bike boxes are not accepted.

How does check-in work for Barrier Air flights from Auckland?

All Barrier Air passengers check in at the airport counter. Check-in opens 60 minutes before departure and, along with bag drop, closes 30 minutes before. Barrier Air recommends arriving at least 45 minutes early, and in Auckland the check-in is at the Domestic Terminal (Regional).

How do I choose a payment plan for a bigger Barrier Air booking?

Add up the whole trip before picking a plan, including extras such as NZ$50 one way for a surfboard or bike and any excess baggage at NZ$5.50 to NZ$10.00 per kg. Barrier Air charter and group bookings need a 20% non-refundable deposit, and prepaid Multipass tickets are route-specific and valid for 12 months. Choose the plan with repayments you can meet comfortably, as terms differ by provider and are shown at checkout.

Can I pay later for a Barrier Air flight from outside New Zealand?

Barrier Air flies scheduled and charter services within New Zealand, such as Auckland to Great Barrier Island, Kaitaia, Whitianga and Kerikeri. Whether pay later is offered depends on the provider and your location, and Laters shows the options available to you at checkout. Check there before you plan around instalments.

Will paying later for Barrier Air affect my credit score?

It can. Depending on the provider, applying may leave a record, and late or missed payments can harm your credit file. This applies even to a short Barrier Air hop such as Auckland to Great Barrier Island, which takes about 25 minutes, because the instalments are still credit. Read the provider's terms at checkout and borrow only what you can repay.

Does Laters add booking fees to Barrier Air flights?

Laters has no hidden booking fees. Barrier Air's own charges are separate and listed in its fare rules, for example NZ$50 one way for a bike and NZ$50 per person, per flight to change an Economy booking. Card payment fees charged by Barrier Air are non-refundable.

Can I add a pet to a Barrier Air flight and pay later?

Barrier Air takes crated pets, one per aircraft, and they must be booked by phone in advance with no connections. Fees are NZ$69 one way for a cat, NZ$85 for an animal up to 20kg including crate, and NZ$60 for crate hire. These are listed as separate fees from the fare, so confirm with Barrier Air how they are charged before relying on a plan to cover them.

Can I pay for my airfare in installments?

Yes on Laters.com: pick a Barrier Air fare, then choose a pay-later provider at checkout, which splits the fare into its own instalments while Laters settles the full fare with Barrier Air straight away.

Can I set up a payment plan for flights?

The payment plan is arranged with the provider you choose at Laters.com checkout rather than with Barrier Air directly; each provider sets its own schedule, fee and eligibility rules once you have picked a fare.

Can you pay flights in installments in NZ?

Yes: Jetstar has run its own Afterpay checkout in New Zealand since March 2022, splitting a fare into four fortnightly instalments, and services such as Laters.com extend instalment-style payment to other carriers that have no instalment plan of their own, Barrier Air among them.

Can I pay for flights on a payment plan?

Yes for a Barrier Air fare on Laters.com; booking directly with Barrier Air instead means paying in full, since its own terms describe no instalment or payment-plan option.

Which airline can I book and pay later?

Every airline Laters.com lists, Barrier Air included, can be booked with a pay-later provider at checkout; most small New Zealand regional carriers still take full payment if you book on their own site.

Can I buy a plane ticket and pay monthly?

Some pay-later providers spread a fare over monthly instalments and others fortnightly; Jetstar's own direct Afterpay integration in New Zealand uses four fortnightly payments rather than monthly ones, so check your chosen provider's own schedule before booking.

Can I book a flight then pay later?

Yes through Laters.com: your Barrier Air booking and e-ticket are confirmed once your chosen provider approves you, and you repay that provider afterwards instead of paying Barrier Air directly at the time of booking.

Can I buy a plane ticket now and pay later?

Yes, that is what a buy-now-pay-later provider does at Laters.com checkout: you receive the ticket straight away and repay the provider on its own schedule.

What airline allows installments?

No New Zealand airline we found runs its own general instalment plan beyond Jetstar's direct Afterpay integration; Laters.com adds instalment-style payment to any airline in its listings, Barrier Air included, through its pay-later providers.

What airline allows monthly payments?

No major New Zealand carrier, Barrier Air included, runs its own monthly-instalment checkout; Jetstar's direct Afterpay option splits a fare fortnightly rather than monthly, and the providers Laters.com offers vary between weekly, fortnightly and monthly schedules depending on which one you pick.

What airlines have monthly flight passes?

A flight pass is a different product from a payment plan: Barrier Air's own Prepaid Multipass bundles discounted one-way fares on its routes, paid upfront and valid for 12 months, rather than splitting a single fare into instalments.

Which airline has a monthly pass?

Barrier Air sells a Prepaid Multipass rather than a monthly pass: a bundle of discounted one-way fares on its own routes, bought upfront and usable within 12 months, with no recurring monthly charge.

Can I use Afterpay to buy flights?

Yes at some airlines' own checkouts, Jetstar in New Zealand since March 2022, and through third-party booking sites such as Alternative Airlines for a wider range of carriers; Barrier Air does not offer Afterpay at its own checkout.

What airlines do Afterpay NZ?

Jetstar is the New Zealand airline confirmed to take Afterpay directly; other carriers, including Barrier Air, can still be paid for with Afterpay or a similar provider through Laters.com or a third-party booking site rather than at their own checkout.

Can I use Afterpay to pay for Air NZ flights?

Not directly at Air New Zealand's own checkout, but Afterpay is available when you book an Air New Zealand fare through a third-party site such as Alternative Airlines.

What is the best Buy Now Pay Later in NZ?

There is no single best option; for flights specifically, Jetstar's own direct Afterpay integration and third-party sites that extend Afterpay or similar providers to more airlines are the main New Zealand routes we found, so compare each provider's own fees and schedule before choosing.

Is Flexpay worth it for flights?

We found no official Flexpay flight-booking integration to assess directly; weigh any buy-now-pay-later provider's instalment schedule, fees and credit check against your own budget, since a missed instalment is still a debt owed to the provider rather than to the airline.

How much does a plane ticket cost with Barrier Air?

Barrier Air's own routes page lists one-way fares from NZ$99 (Auckland-Great Barrier Island), NZ$109 (Auckland-Kerikeri), NZ$129 (Auckland-Whitianga), NZ$189 (North Shore-Great Barrier Island) and NZ$195 (Auckland-Kaitaia); actual fares vary by date and availability.

What is the maximum checked baggage size allowed on Barrier Air flights?

Barrier Air publishes weight limits rather than dimensions: Premium and Economy fares include 20kg checked baggage, or 23kg on Kaitaia and Kerikeri flights, and Barrier Air's terms cap any single bag at 23kg regardless of the fee paid for carrying it.

Does your handbag count towards the 7kg carry-on?

No: Barrier Air's 7kg carry-on allowance is for one main bag, and a small personal item such as a handbag, laptop bag or backpack is allowed in addition to it.

Can you take 10kg hand luggage and a handbag?

No: Barrier Air's carry-on limit is 7kg for the main bag, not 10kg, plus the separate small personal item, so a heavier cabin bag would need to be checked in and charged at the excess-baggage rate.

What happens if your bag is over 23kg?

Barrier Air's terms cap every bag at 23kg regardless of excess fee; a bag over your fare's own checked allowance (20kg or 23kg depending on route) is charged separately at NZ$5.50 or NZ$10.00 per kg.

What planes do barrier air fly?

Barrier Air flies the Cessna (208B) Grand Caravan, a single-engine turboprop seating up to 12 passengers in a 1-2 layout, with no toilet, drink service or second crew member on board.

How many seats are on Barrier Air?

Barrier Air's own fleet page describes its Grand Caravans as 12-seat aircraft in a 1-2 layout, a figure also used in an Air Chathams notice describing a leased Barrier Air aircraft.

Where does Barrier Air fly from in Auckland?

Barrier Air operates from two Auckland bases: the Domestic Terminal (Regional) at Auckland Airport, and North Shore Aerodrome at Dairy Flat; no shuttle runs between the two, so check which base your route uses.

Where does Barrier Air depart from?

From Auckland, Barrier Air departs from either the Domestic Terminal at Auckland Airport or North Shore Aerodrome, and also from Great Barrier Aerodrome (Claris), Kerikeri, Whitianga and Kaitaia airports depending on the route booked.

Does Barrier Air offer flights from Auckland to Kerikeri?

Yes, Auckland to Kerikeri is one of Barrier Air's scheduled routes, with one-way fares from NZ$109 and about 22 flights a week at the time of writing.

Who is Barrier Air?

Barrier Air is a New Zealand regional airline, owned and operated in New Zealand and flying to Great Barrier Island. Jim Bergman founded it in 1983 as Great Barrier Airlines, and it took the Barrier Air name in early 2015. It runs scheduled passenger services and charters.

Auckland (AKL) is the hub. Flights leave from the Domestic Terminal at Auckland Airport, and the airline also has a base at North Shore Aerodrome. Routes run from Auckland to Great Barrier Island, Kaitaia, Whitianga and Kerikeri, and Great Barrier Island is linked to Tauranga. Check-in is at the airport counter only, and the airline does not take responsibility for making connections. It sells Premium, Economy and Seat Only fares rather than separate cabins.

Booking in instalments on Laters.com changes how you pay, not what you buy. The fare is the same as paying by card, the baggage allowance is the one your fare carries, and the ticket is issued on Barrier Air's own rules. You fly as its own passenger and simply spread the cost.

Paying later is credit. Some plans carry interest, a soft credit check may apply, and a late fee may apply if you miss a payment. A missed instalment has consequences with the provider, so split a fare only if you are confident you can repay it.

Fleet and on-time performance

Barrier Air is a single-type operator. Every aircraft is a Cessna Grand Caravan, a single-engine turbine, and there is no long-haul flying. The aircraft cover short regional hops from Auckland and North Shore to Great Barrier Island, Kaitaia, Whitianga and Kerikeri, plus the Great Barrier Island to Tauranga link. The fleet is five Cessna Grand Caravans. These are the types in service when the facts were confirmed, and deliveries and retirements change them. Punctuality, cancellation rate and fleet age are left out rather than estimated, since none of them has a confirmed figure yet.

Laters.com is operated by Fly Fairly Pte. Ltd., a travel agent licensed by the Singapore Tourism Board under licence TA04059. Contact Laters.com about a booking, including changes and cancellations; contact your payment provider about your repayment account.
